Adversity

Adversity

On May 24th, 2008 my older brother John went missing. He was married, had a baby on the way, and was weeks away from receiving his pilot wings in the Air Force. After a weekend of desperate searching his body was found, he had passed away. I don’t know why my family was dealt this card or why his wife had to finish her pregnancy and go on in life without him, but the way that we came together as a family allowed us to go on.

Now, almost 2 years later my family honors John’s memory but we have learned from this sadness. We are closer as a family now, and we love and cherish the times we get to visit together a little more. John’s baby is growing and walking and talking, and is a blessing to his mother and the rest of the family. He is our miniature memory of John because he looks just like him!

In this inspirational video Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin explains how we should react to adversity. Do we get angry… or do we learn?

“The way we react to adversity can be a major factor in how happy and successful we can be in life.”

Come what may and love it.
